Bond

A loan to a company or government that pays interest and is repaid.

When you buy a bond, you lend money. The borrower promises to pay interest on set dates and to repay the full amount on a set date. A bond is usually less risky than a share of the same company — bondholders are paid before shareholders — but its return is limited to the interest.
