Share
One equal piece of ownership in a company.
A company's ownership is divided into equal shares. Owning one share of a company with a million shares means owning one millionth of it — of its assets and of whatever it earns.
"Stock" usually means a company's shares as a whole, or shares in general; in everyday use the two words mean the same thing.
