Earnings report
A company's published results for a quarter or a year: revenue, costs, profit and earnings per share.
US listed companies report every quarter, usually just before the market opens or just after it closes, and publish a fuller report once a year.
The market compares the figures with the analysts' consensus estimate and the company's own guidance, so a share can fall on results that look good.
