Investing

Using money to buy something expected to produce value over time, accepting that its value can fall.

Investing means putting money into something — a share of a business, a bond, a fund, property — because it is expected to earn more over time than it costs. Unlike saving, the amount is not fixed: an investment can be worth less than you paid, for a while or for good.

People invest mainly to make their money grow faster than prices rise, and to pay for goals that are years away.
